This type with the bust of Charles IV was struck in Mexico 1791-1808 and is the most available of Mexican colonial two escudos but is still scarce. Assayer FM is recorded for 1784-1801. Most specimens are in poor shape.

Recorded mintage: unknown but the 1791 is given a slight premium.

Specification: 6.77 g, .875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW. This specimen: 6.73 grams, 23.30 mm diameter.
