This specimen is one of a type struck 1773-76 during the reign of Charles III. This type has an inverted mintmark and assayer. All Mexican colonial two escudos are scarce; the catalog accords a slight premium to this type over the later issues of 1777-88 which have a fineness of 875 thousandths.
