Aureo sale 232, lot 219
The specimen shown was lot 219 in Aureo y Calico sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 7,500 euros (about $12,375 including buyer' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1770/69. México. MF. 8 escudos. (Rectificación de fecha no reseñada en Krause). Tipo ´cara de rata´. Sin indicación de valor. Bellísima. Brillo original. Muy rara así. EBC. (Eight escudos of 1770, Mexico City mint, "rat face" type without denomination. Beautiful with original luster, very rare thus, extremely fine. The overdate, 1770-69, is not reported in the SCWC.)
This type was issued at Mexico in 1762-71; despite the long span of issue all dates are rare.
