This specimen was lot 31344 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "Philip II Cob 4 Reales (1556-98) Mo-O AU58 NGC, Mexico City mint. Near Mint State, much luster present on the broad and well-struck flan." This type was not dated and the terms of service of the various assayers ("O" in this case) are still hotly disputed. In 1728, cobs were debased from .931 to .917 fine silver.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.53 grams, .931 fine silver, .405 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-3753, KM 36.
