Mexico H3064-31291r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31291 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles & Johanna "Late Series" 2 Reales ND (1542-57) G-Mo AU55 NGC, Mexico City mint. Very handsome quality, displaying choice tone, a bold strike and a broad flan that displays full legends; a few small flan cracks are noted for accuracy's sake. Highly desirable not only as a slightly scarcer type, but also because this issue was the first to display the 'o' over 'M' Mexico City mintmark which is still being used to this day. Ex. Kent Ponterio Collection (Ponterio 8/2009 - Lot 9128) Selections from the Isaac Rudman Numismatic Cabinet."
