This specimen was lot 11047 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $920. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Carlos & Johanna, Late Series. 1/2 Real, ND (ca. 1542-45). Assayer G. Nice strike with full legends. Lightly cleaned and attractive. VERY FINE." The "Carlos and Johanna" coinage of 1536-55 is complicated and difficult to disentangle as records are sparse and the coins are not dated.
