Sincona sale 33, lot 2251
This specimen was lot 2251 in Sincona sale 33 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 3,400 CHF (about US$4,035 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Mansfeld, Grafschaft, Günther IV., Ernst II., Hoyer VI., Gebhard VII. und Albrecht VII., 1486-1531 Taler 1521. Eisleben. Sehr selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, county of Mansfeld, joint rule of Gunther IV, Ernst II, Hoyer VI, Gebhard VII and Albrecht VII, 1486-1531, thaler of 1521, Eisleben mint. Very rare, Very fine-extremely fine.)"
Mansfeld and its subdivisions were counties of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. This early issue was from before the county was subdivided.
