This specimen was lot 3685 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $364.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mansfeld. Taler, 1541. Gebhard VII, Albrecht VII, Philipp II, & Johan Georg I (1540-46). NGC VF-35. The legend of St. George slaying the dragon. Toned with nice details." Mansfeld and its subdivisions were counties of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers.
