This specimen was lot 10289 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $441. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Mansfeld-Bornstedt. Taler, 1774. Henry (1717-80). NGC EF Details--Surface Hairlines. From the Demarete Collection." Henry was the last duke; on his death all of Mansfeld went to Saxony and later Prussia. This is the only thaler from that locality issued in the eighteenth century; presumably the prolific silver mines of the previous century had become exhausted.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-2438; KM-151.
