This specimen was lot 3156 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,348 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MALTA, JOHANNITERORDEN, Emmanuel Pinto, 1741-1773. 2 Zecchini o. J. Valletta. GOLD. Fast vorzüglich. (Order of Malta, Emmanuel Pinto, 1741-1773, undated double zecchini, Valetta mint. About extremely fine.)"
This type was issued by grandmaster Pinto along with KM 237 (undated quadruple ducat), KM 238 (undated quadruple ducat), KM 236 (undated double ducat), KM 244 (undated single ducat) and KM 233 (undated single ducat), all rare. Maltese coins are known dated both before and after this issue, including this twelve tari (KM 224) from 1741; we don't know why no date appears on this type.
