This specimen was lot 919 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MALAYA: George VI, 1936-1946, AE cent, 1941-I, NGC graded MS63 RB." The Straits Settlements began as a miscellaneous group of trading stations in Southeast Asia and gradually developed into what is now Malaya. Coinage for the Straits Settlements ceased in 1935 and that of Malaya began in 1939 with a cent (shown here), five cents, ten cents (KM 4) and twenty cents. This type was struck 1939-41 with this issue coming from Calcutta. Coinage ceased in 1950 when the colony was merged with British North Borneo.
