Sincona sale 47, lot 1712
This specimen was lot 1712 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Lothringen, Herzogtum, Antoine, 1508-1544. 1/4 Teston 1523, Nancy. Sehr schön. (duchy of Lorraine, Anton, 1508-44, quarter teston of 1523, Nancy mint. Very fine.)"
Altho the duke doubtless spoke French, he did not consider himself a subject of the king of France but rather of the emperor. The province would not fall under French domination until after the Thirty Years War and was not annexed until the death of the last duke in 1766.
