Sincona sale 47, lot 1711
This specimen was lot 1711 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$420 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Lothringen, Herzogtum, Rene II. 1473-1508. 2 Groschen (Plaque) o. J. (nach 1496), Nancy. Vorzüglich. (duchy of Lorraine, Rene II, 1473-1508, undated double groschen, Nancy mint. Extremely fine.)"
Altho the duke doubtless spoke French, he did not consider himself a subject of the king of France but rather of the emperor. The province would not fall under French domination until after the Thirty Years War and was not annexed until the death of the last duke in 1766.
