This specimen was lot 32326 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "La Rioja. Republic 2 Reales 1859-B AU58 NGC, La Rioja mint. Choice for the grade and essentially Mint State with slight cabinet friction evidence on the raised devices and strong mint luster. In all probability the finest example extant of this scarce two-year type and by far the finest seen by the cataloguer, thus a most desirable coin with a great pedigree. Ex. Whittier Collection." This is the scarcer of two dates (1859-60). It and KM 25 (half real) are the last issues from this province.
