Kunker sale 293, lot 1327
This specimen was lot 1327 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$4,044 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHLESIEN, JÄGERNDORF, HERZOGTUM, Georg Friedrich, 1543-1603. Reichstaler 1581, Jägerndorf. Slg. Grüber (Auktion Künker 267) 3379. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Tönung, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Jagerndorf, George Frederick, 1543-1603, thaler of 1581, Jagerndorf mint. Scarce in this quality, attractive example with fine toning, about extremely fine.)"
Davenport lists this for 1576-84. It is expensive but not rare. Silesia is considered a German State even tho the province was then under Austrian rule and is now in Poland. Jagerndorf, in upper Silesia, was part of Silesia that Austria retained after Frederick the Great conquered the major portion for Prussia in 1741-45. For many generations it was held by the princes of Liechtenstein. It is now part of the Czech Republic.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-9324; v. Schr. 1095 var.
