CNG Lissner collection, lot 577

This specimen was lot 577 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $242. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY, Regno d'Italia. Umberto I. 1878-1900. CU-NI 20 Centesimi. Rome mint. Dated 1894 R. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Choice BU. Gem coin only struck for two years. Purchased from M. Louis Teller, April 1974." This type of 1894-95 represented the first issue of the denomination since 1867. Worn specimens fill dealer junk boxes.

Recorded mintage: 13,901,000 plus 75,000,000 from Kremnitz.
