This specimen was lot 4291 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $575. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy. 50 Centesimi, 1889-R. Umberto I. NGC graded MS-62." Italy managed to stay in the Latin Monetary Union until World War One bankrupted the treasury.

Recorded mintage: 635,000.

Specification: 2.5 g, .835 fine silver, .067 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM-26; Pagani-608 (R).
