This specimen was lot 4028 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $423. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. 2 Lire, 1881-R. NGC MS-63 PL. Hard mirror prooflike surfaces. Some light contact marks." This type was struck 1881-99 in large numbers but, despite this, is rather scarce in nice condition. King Umberto was assassinated by an anarchist in 1900.

Recorded mintage: 4,141,000.

Specification: 10 g, .900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW.
