This specimen was lot 4245 in Goldberg sale 80 (Los Angeles, June 2014), where it sold for $1,087. The catalog description[1] noted, "India - British. ½ Pice, 1938 (c). Type I1. George VI. NGC graded Proof 65 Red." Half a pice was one-eighth of an anna or 1/128th of a rupee. It was struck in moderate numbers throughout the Raj until 1942. The 1938 is a proof-only date.
