Sincona sale 9, lot 5949
This specimen was lot 2679 in Sincona sale 9 (Zurich, May 2015), where it sold for 8,500 CHF (about US$10,751 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"UNGARN Franz Joseph, 1848-1916. Goldgulden 1896. Jahrtausendfeier der Landnahme Ungarns. Gutes vorzüglich. (kingdom of Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, goldgulden of 1896, 1000th anniversary of the name of Hungary, good extremely fine.)"
This coin is consigned to the Unusual World Coins and may not have been officially issued, tho it is listed in Friedberg. The price realized suggested that the buyer thought it was an authentic coin.
