Künker sale 293, lot 1711
This specimen was lot 1711 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €7,000 (about US$9,435 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"KAISERREICH ÖSTERREICH, Franz Josef I. 1848-1916. Gulden 1878, KB, Kremnitz, auf die Vollendung des Kaiser Josef II.-Erbstollens in Schemnitz. RR Kabinettstück. Prachtvolle Patina, fast Stempelglanz. Nach 96jähriger Bautätigkeit war der 16.358 m lange Stollen, der zur Bewetterung der Schemnitzer Gruben diente, 1878 fertiggestellt worden. (Empire of Austria, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, gulden of 1878, Kremnitz mint. Issued on the opening of the Joseph II tunnel to the Schemnitzer mines after 96 years of digging.)"
While we feel that the SCWC is correct in classifying this as a medal, it has traditionally been catalogued and collected as a coin so we include it here.

Recorded mintage: 400.

Specification: 12.34 g, .900 fine silver, .357 troy oz AGW, 29.2 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: J. 366; Müseler 71.25, KM XM1.
