Hungary SB117-6728r.jpg

This specimen was lot 6728 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "HUNGARY. Taler, 1662-NB. Nagybanya Mint. Leopold I (1657-1705). NGC EF Details--Plugged. A difficult to find Taler with a significantly less artistic portrait. Plugged at twelve o'clock and probably suspended for wear as evidence of cleaning and polishing is also present. Nevertheless all of the desired elements are present and the outer legends are quite bold. From the Mezo-Toth Kalman Collection." This type of 1660 and 1662 is rare. To compound the problem, the issues of this mint are cruder than those of Kremnitz, such as Dav-3254.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-3267; KM-160.2; Huszar-1378.
