CNG Lissner collection, lot 1864
Sedwick sale 25, lot 1103

The first specimen was lot 1864 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Robert Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $605. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS, Republic. 1840-pres. AR 50 Centavos. Tegucicalpa mint. Dated 1908/1897. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 62. Silver, gray, and light blue patina with untoned reverse. Highest graded specimen and only Mint State example. Extremely rare type and overdate. Ex Whittier Collection (Heritage 410, 2 June 2006), lot 17267." The second specimen was lot 1103 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it sold for $595. The catalog description[2] noted, "Honduras, 50 centavos, 1908/897, fineness 0.835/0.900, NGC MS 63. Choice grade, with typically crude lettering and weak high points but lustrous around details and lacking any actual wear, with very light golden toning. Despite the NGC label, this is actually the 1908/897 overdate variety, and therefore second finest behind a single MS 64 in the NGC census. NGC #4715682-015." This one year type is scarce.

Recorded mintage: 447.

Specification: 12.5 g, .835 or .900 fine silver, the first specimen Ø31 mm, 12.25 g, 6h axis.
