Honduras SB117-6703r.jpg

This specimen was lot 6703 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "HONDURAS. Peso, 1886. NGC MS-62. The sole finest certified example. Inscription in exergue slightly doubled with the vast majority of the reverse doubled which appears to have been done in the die itself rather than strike doubling. Nice root beer toning over the majority of the surfaces with lovely multicolored hues in the protected areas and around the devices." This type was issued in Honduras 1883-1903 and 1914 and usually comes poorly struck. It is much commoner than the earlier KM 51, issued 1881-83. Varieties, overdates, etc., abound. The peso was dropped in favor of the lempira in 1931.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 25 g, .900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-52.
