Honan Province in the south east of China began coin production in 1647. A mint for struck coinage began operation in 1905.

The specimen shown was lot 61225 in Stack's Bowers April 2012 Hong Kong Auction (Sale #165), where it sold for $1076. The catalog description[1] noted, “Lot #21225. CHINA. Honan. 20 Cash, Year 20 (1931). 民國二十年當制錢二十文。RARE. 罕見。旗上五角星。NGC VF-25 BN. Frank Robinson Collection.”
