Künker sale 336, lot 6832
The first specimen was lot 3950 in Sincona sale 9 (Zurich, October 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Hessen, Grossherzogtum Münzstätte Darmstadt bis 1880, danach Berlin Ernst Ludwig, 1892-1918. 2 Mark 1904. Zum 400. Geburtstag Philipps des Grossmütigen. FDC. Mattiert/Polierte Platte. (Grand duchy of Hesse, Ernest Louis, 1892-1918, two mark of 1904, Berlin mint, on the 400th birtday of Philip the Magnanimous, proof.)"
The second specimen was lot 6832 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €170 (about US$223 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"GERMAN COINS SINCE 1871, REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, HESSEN, Ernst Ludwig, 1892-1918. 2 Mark 1904. Philipp der Großmütige. Vorderseite mattiert, polierte Platte. (Germany, grand duchy of Hesse, Ernest Louis, 1892-1918, two mark of 1904. Obverse matte, proof.)"
This two mark piece was issued from the Berlin mint and accompanied by a five mark piece (KM 373). The two mark is common.

Recorded mintage: 100,000 plus 2,250 proofs.

Specification: 11.11 g, .900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter.
