This specimen was lot 3586 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €10,000 (about US$13,478 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg II. 1727-1760. Dukat 1730, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Harzer Gruben. Harzgold. GEORG · II · D · G M · BRIT · F · ET · H · REX · F · D · B · ET · L · DVX · S · R · I · A · T H · ET · E L · Gekröntes, vierfeldiges Wappen//NEC ASPERA TERRENT Roß springt l, im Abschnitt AUR . - HERC ., dazwischen die Münzmeistersignatur S und die Jahreszahl 1730 · GOLD. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Exemplar der Preussag Collection, Part I. Auktion London Coin Galleries/Künker 1, London 2015, Nr. 298. This type was struck 1730, 1735-41, 1746, 1750, 1756 but remains rare, probably because the yield of the mines was low. A ducat with the bust of the elector also exists for 1730. The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866.
