Hanau in 1789, between Isenburg and Frankfurt. Munzenberg is to the north, neighboring Solms
This specimen was lot 855 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €220 (about US$297 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HANAU, HANAU-MÜNZENBERG, GRAFSCHAFT, Wilhelm IX. (I.) von Hessen-Kassel, 1760-1785, bis 1764 unter Vormundschaft seiner Mutter Maria. Konv.-Taler 1771, Hanau. Ausbeute der Bieberer Gruben. Sehr schön. (Germany, county of Hanau-Munnzenberg, William IX of Hesse-Cassel, 1760-85 (until 1764 under the regency of his mother Maria), convention thaler of 1771, Hanau mint, for the Bieberer mine. Very fine.)"
The county of Hanau-Lichtenberg on the Rhine passed to rival Hesse-Darmstadt and eventually to Baden.

Recorded mintage: unknown but few.
