Kunker sale 263, lot 183
This specimen was lot 183 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabruck, June 2015), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,550 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Hamburg, STADT Reichstaler (32 Schilling) 1572, mit Titel Maximilians II. Münzmeister Andreas Metzner. RR Hübsche Patina, kl. Prägeschwäche, sehr schön +, Dies ist der erste Hamburger Reichstaler nach der Reichsmünzordnung von 1566. (Germany, city of Hamburg, thaler of 1572, in the name of Maximilian II, mintmaster Andreas Metzner. Very rare, handsome patina, lightly cleaned, very fine or better. This is the first thaler struck in Hamburg in accordance with the imperial coinage law of 1566.)"
Davenport notes this type of 1571-84 as scarce to rare.
