Künker sale 294, lot 3631
This specimen was lot 3631 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €420 (about US$566 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HAMBURG, STADT, Goldgulden o. J. (um 1435-1437), mit Titel Sigismunds I. GOLD. Sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 176, Osnabrück 2010, Nr. 5002. (Germany, city of Hamburg, undated goldgulden, struck in the name of Sigismund I. Very fine.)"
This is the first gold coin noted for this Hanseatic city which today still dominates the North Sea coast of Germany. Tho not cheap, this is the most available type until the late seventeenth century.

Specification: 3.5 g, .986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 3,36 g.
