Halberstadt in 1547
This specimen was lot 298 in UBS sale 85 (Zurich, September 2010), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$513 including buyer's fee). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND, Halberstadt, Bistum, Domkapitel, 1617-1631. Taler 1629. Behelmtes Wappen. Rv. Der stehende hl. Stephan von vorn zwischen der geteilten Jahreszahl. Hksp. Sehr schön-vorzüglich." (Bishopric of Halberstadt, thaler of 1629. Obverse: helmeted arms; reverse: St. Stephen standing, dividing date. Very Fine to Extremely Fine.)
This type is one of the few from this locale which are not very rare; it is only scarce. Other types of thalers are recorded for 1629. Halberstadt was annexed to Brandenburg in 1648.
