Guatemala 1893-RG peso

This type was minted in Guatemala in 1893 and is a very rare date. This specimen was lot 13434 in Heritage sale 351 (Long Beach, CA, June 2004), where it sold for $1,380. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Peso 1893-RG, toned XF, sharp strike on the quetzal. The reverse displays a prominent edge nick at 8 o'clock and a smaller rim bump at 2 o'clock. A very rare date of this elusive type." All the dates debetween 1878 and 1889 are scarce to rare. Not until 1894 (KM 210) were large quantities of silver pesos issued.
