This specimen was lot 3047 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1495. The catalog description[1] noted, "1864 R 8 pesos. AU-55 (NGC). Head of Carrera to right, legends around/arms, legends around, date below. Lustrous yellow gold with reflective surfaces, sharp and attractive, only minor signs of handling. Broadly repunched 64 in date. A choice example of the type. Purchased from Walter F. Webb, March 15, 1943."

This type was struck in Guatemala 1864 only. A similar eight pesos was struck in 1869 (KM 192) but is even rarer.

Specification: 13.53 g, .875 fine gold, .380 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 13.52 grams, 27.40 mm diameter.
