This specimen was lot 35382 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 1/4 Real 1859 VF30 NGC, Guatemala mint. A wholesome Very Fine specimen with even wear and quite attractive since essentially problem-free. The rare key date of this first Republican cuartillo type, usually found in holed and/or very worn condition. The date is quite clear, making this a choice specimen for the designation. From The Santa Maria Collection." This type was struck in 1859-69 and this date is rare.
