This specimen was lot 10484 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $822. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. 8 Reales, 1847/6-A. PCGS AU-50 Secure Holder. Lightly toned." The type is listed under the Central American Republic. It is not rare in circulated condition but has boldly increased in price in recent years. This federation was an attempt to unite all the former Spanish provinces of Central America into one country but collapsed amid recrimination and civil war.
