This specimen was lot 1378 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $881. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. 8 Reales, 1828-M. NGC AU-55. Lustrous." The type is listed under the Central American Republic. It is not rare in circulated condition but has boldly increased in price in recent years. This federation was an attempt to unite all the former Spanish provinces of Central America into one country but collapsed amid recrimination and civil war.
