This specimen was lot 40598 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $2,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "GUATEMALA. 8 Reales, 1786-NGM. PCGS VF-35 Secure Holder. Extremely RARE date with only a handful of examples known. A similar example sold for $3,000 in our March 1991 Auction as part of the Viceroyal Amat Collection." This type was struck at the Nueva Guatemala mint 1776-87.
