This specimen was lot 30003 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles III Escudo 1783 NG-P VF - Cleaned, Nueva Guatemala mint. Well detailed with limited actual wear, cleaned long ago with hairlines mostly visible on the obverse and now attractively retoned. The more available date of this rare type with 1,406 coins struck, yet still very elusive in any condition. Ex. Ponterio (1/2005, Lot 1057)." Three dates (1778, 1783, 1785) are known for this type, all very scarce.
