This specimen was lot 4317 in Goldberg sale 67 (Los Angeles, January 2012), where it sold for $150 plus buyer's fee. The catalog description[1] noted, "Greece. 5 Drachmai, 1876-A. George I of Denmark, 1863-1913. Head left. Reverse: Crowned and mantled arms. Deeply toned. PCGS graded EF-45." This one-year type was struck in Paris 1875-76 for king George I (1863-1913) to the standard of a French five francs. Greece, poor, backward, corrupt and riven by feuds, could ill afford a substantial silver coinage and this is the only issue that is reasonably available. Proofs are reported to exist.

Recorded mintage: 2,092,000.

Specification: 25 g, .900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Dav-117; KM-46.
