This type was struck 1954-56 in comparatively small numbers but was extensively saved. It is common today in all grades. The farthing, after centuries of intermittent production, was terminated in 1956, inflation having ended its usefulness.

Recorded mintage: 5,779,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: bronze, 20 mm diameter, designed by Mary Gillick and George Krueger-Gray.
