This specimen was lot 30061 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description noted, "George VI 3 Pence 1949 MS65 NGC, Royal mint. An exceptional full Gem of this key date issue, obviously carefully preserved for decades, with vibrant luster and appealing bluish-green toning accents on the obverse. Currently the single finest graded example at NGC, and certain to be highly coveted as such." This type was struck 1949-52 but only the 1951 is common.
