This specimen was lot 23007 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Penny, 1889/8. PCGS MS-64 RB Secure Holder. VERY SCARCE overdate. Sharply struck with splashes of mint luster. From the Brighton Collection." This type was struck 1874-94 in large numbers and is common tho some dates are rare in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 7,748,000 including the scarce overdate.

Specification: 5.6 g, bronze, 25.5 mm diameter.
