This specimen was lot 20636 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1854. NGC MS-65. RARE date and the single finest graded at NGC. Stunning pewter toning infused with much iridescent color. When combined with the terrific state of preservation seen here, an irresistible offering that is certain to generate enthusiastic competition among new potential owners." This type was struck 1838-66 in large quantities with a slightly modified obverse obtaining until 1887. Note the clashed reverse die.

Recorded mintage: 582,000.
