This specimen was lot 24060 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[1] noted, "George III gold Sovereign 1817, MS62 NGC, lustrous, a number of abrasions in the soft metal." This type was struck for George III 1817-20 and despite substantial mintages, all the dates are scarce in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 3,235,000.

Specification: 7.98 g, .917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW.
