This specimen was part of lot 24257 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), which sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "George III Maundy Set 1795, older laureate bust, normal numerals on reverse, a beautiful, lustrous set graded by NGC as follows: Penny MS64, 2d MS65, 3d MS63, and 4d MS64; all in all, one of the best sets anyone could own." This issue, along with the silver two, three and fourpence, comprised the Maundy set handed out by the sovereign on Maundy Thursday. Being careful preserved by their recipients, the coins are today common in nice condition.
