Great Britain 1792 3 pence
This specimen was part of lot 30919 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), which sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description noted, "George III Four-Piece Maundy Set 1792, ...3) 3 Pence - MS64 NGC, S-3754.... A choice, one-year type set. All are perfectly matched, with bluish-gray patina. Possibly, the nicest set of this date we have seen with each example being the sole finest graded at NGC." This type was struck 1792 only and, tho not rare, is difficult to find in nice condition. It is difficult to appreciate that prior to 1797, all English pennies were struck in silver, a holdover from medieval issues.
Specification: 1.50 g, .925 fine silver, .042 troy oz ASW.
Recorded Mintage: unknown.
