Künker sale 293, lot 1955
This specimen was lot 1955 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €6,500 (about US$7,839 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"GROSSBRITANNIEN, Oliver Cromwell, 1653-1658. 6 Pence 1658. Sogenannte Dutch Sixpence. Mit glattem Rand. In dieser Erhaltung von großer Seltenheit. Prachtexemplar mit herrlicher Tönung. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (commonwealth of Great Britain, Oliver Cromwell, 1653-58, so-called "Dutch" sixpence of 1658, with plain edge. Very rare in this quality, prooflike, beautiful toning, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This one year type is always in high demand, particularly considering the exquisite diework and full strike on the specimen shown here, most untypical of English coins of the period. Earlier sixpences of the commonwealth (KM 389.1, struck 1649-57) are not nearly so well made.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Seaby 3229; ESC 1506, KM E207.
