This specimen was lot 13128 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[3] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Franc, 1816-W. Lille Mint. NGC MS-65. Toned with attractive underlying luster." Lille mint issues are normally common but this one is rare. Le Franc[2] does not price this coin in this quality.

Recorded mintage: 71,653[2].

Specification: 25 g, .900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier.
