Kunker sale 263, lot 1712
The first specimen was lot 50412 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $345. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Ecu, 1789-A. NGC MS-61. Louis XVI (1774-93). Dark toned. From the Madeleine Collection." The second specimen was lot 1712 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabruck, June 2015), where it sold for €420 (about US$543 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"KÖNIGREICH Louis XVI, 1774-1793. Ecu aux rameaux d'olivier 1789, A, Paris. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Leicht justiert, sonst fast Stempelglanz. (kingdom of France, Louis XVI, 1774-93, écu of the olive branches of 1789, Paris mint. Very rare in this grade, light adjustment marks, uncirculated.)"
This product of the Paris mint is common.

Recorded mintage: est. 1,800,000.

Specification: 29.45 g, .917 fine silver, 39 mm diameter.
