UBS sale 76, lot 2305

This specimen was lot 2305 in UBS sale 76. It is a half louis d'or au bandeau minted at Reims (mintmark "S") during the reign of Louis XV of France. The type was struck 1741-53 and intermittently 1755-70. Like all half louis, it is very rare. Droulers[1] gives this date a slight premium over the common date (1741-A) but this coin is too rare to collect by date.

Recorded mintage: 2,454.

Specification: 4.08 g, .917 fine gold, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Roéttiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 no. 809, Dr/2 no. 544, KM 517.7.
